Snow Making to the Rescue!

by Adventure Team | Dec 30, 2015

Are you worried that there won’t be enough snow on the slopes to ski and snowboard this season? Are you afraid you won’t be able to keep the kids busy out on the slopes for the rest of their time off school?

Even though you might not have snow in the GTA, you can visit Barrie & Area with no fear. Each and every one of the Barrie & Area ski resorts have the ability to make snow, making it possible for them to open earlier and stay open later, as well as to cover their hills with our favourite fluffy white stuff, making for the perfect conditions.

Snow making is an amazing art that is done at almost every ski resort (including the indoor ones). The snow is made by forcing water and pressurized air through a “snow gun” or “snow cannon” onto a ski slope. Believe it or not, the machine-made snow is all natural – yes, real snow! Ski resorts often take advantage of their snow making abilities to increase the natural snow that is already there, to prevent the snow from melting so quickly, and sometimes to extend their season.

Snow Valley Ski Resort, Horseshoe Valley Resort, and Mount St. Louis Ski Resort all have snow making abilities for 100% of their terrain. When the temperatures drop below freezing for more than 24 hours, but there is no moisture in the air to make snow, our local ski spots get to work, producing the “perfect” snowfall.

The ski resorts in Barrie & Area are ready for you! Once a solid base layer of snow is there, as long as Mother Nature is cooperating with colder weather, the ski resorts guarantee that they will be making snow.
