Come play in Barrie after Wayhome

by Adventure Team | Jun 16, 2016

Wayhome 2017 is just around the corner. Barrie is just as excited to have you in the area as you are to come and attend—so, we were thinking, why not stay a little later?

Head to Barrie & Area a few days after your Wayhome weekend (that’s July 28-30, by the way) and end your week off full of adventure and excitement, and we don’t want you to miss out. Plus, there really isn’t a more perfect time for a vacation in Ontario. We’ve rounded up some of the great activities, restaurants, and live music that Barrie & Area has to offer. You’ll definitely want to check them out after Wayhome this year!

Stay at one of Barrie & Area’s great campgrounds (since you’ll already have all of your camping gear with you!). Choose from staying in your fully equipped RV, “glamping” in a beautiful cabin, or just popping up your tent. Barrie’s campgrounds are largely family owned and operated and an excellent way to enjoy your vacation. Choose from the Barrie KOA Campground, Bee Happy Family Campground, Heidi’s Campground, Little Banff Campground (Elmvale), Toronto North KOA (Cookstown), and Castle Village Park & Campground (Midland).

If camping for the weekend is all you can handle, Barrie & Area also has some amazing hotels. One of these hotel chains or independent offerings will be sure to suit your needs and make your stay a comfortable one.

Adventure your way through Barrie & Area, home to tons of neat summer activities that you’ll be dying to try. Start your vacation off-the-ground with Treetop Trekking at Horseshoe Resort. While you’re there, challenge your friends to a round of golf at Horseshoe’s Valley course, or try one of the smaller courses in the area like Shanty Bay Golf Club or Simoro Golf Links in Oro Medonte.

While you’re in Oro, make sure to stop by Shanty Bay Go Karts and race your friends in the Honda-powered karts on their one kilometer outdoor track. Hardwood Ski & Bike is another adventure you won’t want to miss. This location has over 80km of beautiful rolling trails and is home to the mountain biking events for the 2015 Pan Am Games! Try mountain biking or gliding around on a Segway through the wooded forests.

The fun doesn’t stop there. Make sure you check out Barrie’s waterfront beaches and all of the watercraft adventures you can have out on Kempenfelt Bay, Lake Simcoe! You can rent everything from fishing equipment (and charter with Heels Recreational Fishing Services), to Stand-up Paddle Boards, kayaks, canoes from Happy Paddling, or even learn to Stand Up paddle with NorthernSUP

If powersports equipment is more your style, WakeBoard and pull your friends along on a wakeboard or tube with SurfWakeSki - Barrie Watersports! Would you rather look at the water than be in it? Rent a bike from Bikeland and cycle around the beautiful waterfront trail and Barrie’s exciting downtown.

Listen to the live music at many of Barrie’s downtown restaurants or bars to maintain the mood of Wayhome! All of the action is conveniently in one place in Barrie—Dunlop Street, Barrie’s downtown core. Donaleighs is a popular Barrie hangout that has a great live music schedule every week including their singer/songwriter series on Tuesday evenings. Kenzington Burger Bar, right next door to Donaleighs, offers great food and live music to boot. Have your go at performing at McReilly’s Pub where they host an Open Mic Night every Thursday evening. Hooligan’s rooftop patio not only has live music but also an amazing view that you’ll want to check out (and of course take advantage of the perfect background for photo ops).

Barrie’s nightclub scene makes the downtown entertainment district a lively one. If you need to catch the Jays game, visit these sports bars and pubs—we promise they’ll be playing it on more than one screen!

Eating is one of the best things you can do in Barrie with all of our unique restaurants and chef creations. Barrie’s downtown is lined with great food, buzzing patios, and a relaxed atmosphere. With everything from bars, pubs, and grills to fine dining, ethnic eats, and cafes, your taste buds will be begging for more. And don’t forget to finish your meal off with something sweet—froyo, cupcakes, ice cream, or a warm, chocolatey crepe!

Don't let the fun end after the exciting weekend at Wayhome! Keep up the adventure and come visit the city of Barrie!
