FREE outdoor skating is available at the Circle in the Square
City Hall, 70 Collier Street.

Closed due to mild temperatures

Annually the Circle in the Square transforms from a summer reflecting fountain to an artificially supported skating rink with heated change rooms and parking. It even has its own small zamboni to maintain the ice surface! Open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. weather permitting, generally from December to March. Please note that hockey is not permitted in this location.

Other City maintained outdoor rinks include Eastview Arena (455 Grove St. East), Lampman Lane (59 Lampman Lane) and Shear Park (21 Holgate St.). For a complete list of volunteer-maintained outdoor rinks, please contact the City of Barrie Parks Department at (705) 739-4255.

Mariposa School of Skating

Mariposa School of Skating is a wonderful part of our community here in Barrie. They are certified as an educational institution by the Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development Canada. They offer a variety of programs from beginner levels to the highest competitive levels allowing a welcoming environment for all ages and skill types.  
Their various skating opportunities include:

CanSkate is Canada’s only nationally recognized learn-to-skate program. It was developed by experts to teach the fundamentals of skating in a progressive and sequential manner.

StarSkate offers opportunities for skaters to continue to develop fundamental figure skating skills in the areas of ice dance, skating skills, free skate and interpretive skating.

The Power Skating program is designed to develop fundamental skating skills through which a hockey player will achieve greater success.

The Junior Program is for skaters that have passed stage 6 of the CanSkate Program and working on the Skate Canada – Star Skate tests, Preliminary Skills, Free Skate and Dance.
