In response to the closing of Markham's Buttonville Airport in the next five years, the Lake Simcoe Regional Airport (LSRA) officials have been meeting with Buttonville representatives and other parties since 2009 to investigate the possible opportunities. The LSRA has many competitive advantages from both a location and facility perspective. Located 45 minutes north from Pearson International Airport and on the Provincial highway system, the LSRA has recently updated and expanded its' new runway and taxiway. Construction is also underway on the terminal building expansion and 10 new fully serviced commercial development lots will be available for the aviation business and industry. The airport also has a further 50 acres of land slated for development opportunities.
