Pooches on Patios in Barrie

A cool drink on a patio is one of summer’s pleasures!

Barrie has a lot of patios that serve up incredible drinks, along with some amazing eats. And why should your pet miss out? Your faithful friend need not stay home if you’re planning a patio pleasure. Nor do you have to pass up a cool one if you’re out for a walk. Here are some of Barrie’s popular pet-friendly patios!

Lazy Tulip Café

Lazy Tulip

Located on Maple Avenue between the waterfront and Dunlop Street, the Lazy Tulip is open for breakfast and lunch, and it features a weekend breakfast menu that is served from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

A breakfast destination, the Lazy Tulip serves up Homestead Farms’ free-run eggs in a variety of creations that range from the classic breakfast served with turkey bacon to a Quinoa Breakfast Bowl, Huevos Rancheros and a daily baked French toast. If you’re looking for healthy and vegan options, the Lazy Tulip offers avocado toast with sauteed spinach and goat cheese, as well as a Vegan Medley that features hummus, tomatoes and peashoots.

The Lunch menu includes an array of sandwiches and wraps, served with a house salad or daily soup. The Mediterranean includes roasted yams, red peppers and zucchini, with an option for goat cheese.

Locally sourcing its ingredients, the Lazy Tulip highlights Nicholyn Farms’ chicken on its Chicken and Bree Panini, with carmelized onions and house-made cranberry red pepper jelly. Between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. – just in time for the after-work walk – the café also features tapas: Grilled Pineapple Mini Naan Pizzas, grilled cheese waffles and Caprese Skewers. If you need something sweet, ask about the Tulip Square Sampler.

Flying Monkeys

Flying Monkeys Patio

There is more than beer served up on this incredible downtown Barrie patio – although admittedly, the beer menu is extensive and encourages exploration. There are beers you’d expect and beers you’d never dream of – like a chocolate beer as well as a milkshake IPA.

Serving up a relaxed vibe, Flying Monkeys food accentuates the beer choices; pair your food with your beer. A popular choice is the Garage Pail Tots, loaded with cheese and sour cream, although pub faves are all on the menu – wings, nachos (with a jerk chicken twist) and burgers. The lush pretzels with warm mustard cheese sauce are a signature and not-to-miss item.

The Farmhouse Restaurant

The Farmhouse Barrie

In an incredibly updated historic building close to the waterfront walking trail, The Farmhouse offers incredible views of Kempenfelt Bay, as well as a refreshing welcome for you and your pet on its waterfront-facing patio.

Work up an appetite with your weekend waterfront walk – then indulge guilt-free!

Along with a farm fresh menu that serves up weekend breakfast from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., The Farmhouse offers not just eggs, but also avocado, yogurt and granola, as well as favourites like French toast and its own take on smoked trout benedict.

Appy Hour takes place from 3 to 5 p.m. every day, perfect timing for the late-afternoon walk. The menu includes oysters, maple smoked trout, pulled pork and bacon potato skins and a romaine salad with bacon paired with the daily soup creation.

Lunch and dinner options include flatbread and dip, burgers, entrée salads (like the Chicken Apple Pecan Salad, with mixed greens, pickled onions and cheddar, tied together with pomegranate vinaigrette).

Moose Winooski’s

Moose Winooski Patio

Whether you’re dropping through Barrie on your way back from the cottage or enjoying a staycation, Moose Winooski’s reinforces that relaxing cottage country welcome and vibe.

Located on Bayfield Street – or Highway 26 as it links cottage country with Highway 400 – Moose Winooski’s is tough to miss: its log-cabin architecture warms up the commercial area. Its patio is a place for you and your pet to cool off and enjoy the day or evening.

The menu features burgers and wings, favourites like warm spinach and artichoke dip, and an array of tacos, two poutines and sandwiches. Lodge favourites include fish and chips, blackened salmon, an Asian noodle bowl and fajitas. Oh, and don’t forget the ribs – tasty slow-roasted meet for you and bones for the doggy bag
