10 Reasons You Need to Be at Winterfest This Year!


Appreciate the beauty of winter on Barrie's waterfront as you marvel at the incredible ice sculptures, soak in the live entertainment or brave the chilly waters at the Polar Bear dip. Barrie's Winterfest is a great way to celebrate winter with adventures the whole family will enjoy!

On February 1st & 2nd, join us for two fun filled days and check out our Top 10 Reasons You Need to Be at Winterfest this Year:

Winter Kites - Don't miss this incredible sight as kites of all shapes and sizes fill the sky over Kempenfelt Bay. From 11am to 3pm on Saturday and Sunday (wind permitting) join the Toronto Kite Fliers as they perform a special winter aerial display.

Battle of the Chainsaws – What’s a winter carnival without incredible ice sculptures? Head over to Meridian Place at 1 pm on Saturday and watch as professional ice carvers from the Ice Culture Team go head to head in an ultimate ice carving battle.

Polar Bear Dip – Brave the chilly waters of Kempenfelt Bay and get ready to take the plunge. Be ready to test the waters at 12pm on Sunday at Centennial Beach. No preregistration is required and it's free to participate. 

Historic Walking Tour - On Saturday at 1:30pm and Sunday at 1pm meet Barrie’s Town Crier at the Meridian Place Stage, where he will take you on a one-hour tour highlighting the city’s history. Be entertained with true stories of Barrie’s Victorian past!

Skating at the Circle in the Centre – Tighten your laces and hit the ice for a leisurely skate in front of Barrie’s City Hall. On Saturday & Sunday from 12:15pm – 1:30pm don’t miss the Mariposa Skating Showcase & Learn to Skate Event. The Maripose School of Skating will present a demonstration of their beginner and International competitors, then guest can join them on the ice for a 'Learn to Skate' Session.

Mini Tube Slide – If you've never tried snow tubing, this is the perfect spot to see why it is one of winters most loved activities. Snow Valley’s Mini Tube Slide will be ready for you on Saturday from 10am – 5pm and Sundays from 10am – 4pm.

Wildlife show at winterfest

Meet Some Wildlife – Get up close and personal with some of Canada’s most popular furry friends on Saturday from 10am – 5pm and Sunday 10am – 4pm. Special shows will take place daily at 12:30pm and 2pm.

Lumberjack Shows – Speed sawing, axe throwing and chainsaw carving? Don’t miss watching these expert lumberjacks as they demonstrate their incredible skills. Shows will take place on Saturday and Sunday at 12pm, 1:30pm & 3pm.

Giant Snow Sculptures – Professional carvers create intricate giant sculptures out of snow. This year’s theme will be the celebration of stories. 

Family Entertainment – Sing, clap and dance along with a variety of family friendly performers on the main stage. Be sure to also catch a performance at one of our many participating restaurants, bars, libraries and concert venues, where The February Blues will be featuring Blues and Jazz music performed by some of Canada’s most brilliant artists all weekend long.
