Check out some virtual cinema with the Barrie Film Festival (BFF)


Although the Uptown Theatre closed its doors, the Barrie Film Festival will continue to show its programming online. Through Virtual Cinema, embrace the opportunity and view thought-provoking international films that can be rented for viewing at home. Your support will be greatly appreciated.

Virtually visit our local Art Exhibits


Soak in a little arts and culture from home and explore the artwork from the MacLaren Art Centre. They have plenty of their exhibitions available for you to view online through their website including a virtual tour of the Portraits from their MacLaren’s Permanent Collection. Also for a fun destressing activity, purchase a Downtown Barrie Colouring Book from their online store, available for curbside pick-up and colour in your favourite Barrie landmarks!

Get Outside! (Safely)

Enjoy some time doing some fun outdoor activities over this lockdown period. There are still plenty of activities available for you to enjoy! Of course make sure to follow all health and safety protocols by keeping your distance from others, wearing a mask and staying home if you are sick.

  • At Snow Valley, Snowshoeing is one of the winter activities that they are still able to to offer during the Provincial Shutdown. Snowshoeing will be available with its regular operating schedule 9am-4pm (Closed Christmas Day). Rentals for snowshoes are available. 
  • At Horseshoe Resort, although all their other resort operations are closed for the province wide shutdown, their fat biking, snowshoeing and cross country trails are still operating! Rentals are not available. Check out their website to book online and find out more information about your visit.
  • Friday Harbour has transformed into a winter getaway! Enjoy an evening stroll through Friday Harbour’s Luma Light Trail, skate on the Glice Skate Trail along the Boardwalk, do a few laps on their Outdoor Rink, or take a fat bike ride through the Nature Preserve.
  • Hiking: Bundle up in your warm winter gear and head out on the trails for some winter wonderland hikes! 
  • Skating at the City Hall & Centennial Park Community Ice Rink. Make sure to bring all your own equipment, masks and contact the City of Barrie for more information about the maintenance of the rinks.
