Shakir Barmare is a community builder and systems thinker with a proven track record of developing cultural, community, and business-driven initiatives that contribute to Barrie’s tourism growth and local economy.

As the Founder of the Barrie Indian Association and Beyond Giving, he has led the creation of large-scale events and platforms that bring diverse communities together while enhancing the city’s cultural vibrancy and visitor experience.

A graduate of Georgian College (Business, Class of 2010), Shakir has been recognized for his leadership and community impact, including the Community Champion Award (Simcoe County, 2018), Changemaker Award (Georgian College, 2025), Leadership in Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Award (Barrie Chamber of Commerce, 2025), and First Runner-Up – Shift Disturber Award (City of Barrie, 2026).

On the Board of Tourism Barrie, Shakir represents the Festivals & Events and Arts & Culture sector, contributing a community-driven perspective to destination development. His focus is on strengthening collaboration between the community, culture, and business to enhance the overall Barrie experience for residents and visitors alike. Shakir is committed to supporting Tourism Barrie’s mission to position Barrie as a vibrant, inclusive, and must-visit destination.
