Steve Fontaine
General Manager of Barrie Minor Hockey Association

Steve has served as the General Manager of the Barrie Minor Hockey Association (BMHA) since June 2021, leading one of the city of Barrie’s largest and most active sports organizations. Under his leadership, the BMHA has significantly expanded its role in local sport tourism. In 2024 alone, the association hosted three major hockey tournaments in Barrie, attracting 9,891 attendees and generating an economic impact of over $4.75 million.

Steve retired in 2016 after a 30-year public transit and customer service career. Since moving to Barrie in 1998, he has been involved in many sports, but his enduring passion for hockey has kept him actively engaged with the BMHA.

He firmly believes that the continued growth of all sports in Barrie can drive meaningful economic benefits for the community, creating jobs and supporting local development. Steve’s expertise in event logistics, community engagement, and grassroots sports development makes him a valuable asset in strengthening Barrie’s reputation as a leading sport tourism destination.

Steve was appointed to the Tourism Barrie Board of Directors in November 2024 to fill a vacancy and is standing for election by the Membership of Tourism Barrie.
