Doors Open Barrie takes place on Saturday, September 27, 2025, featuring 20 sites open for public tours from 10am to 4pm. This event gives Barrie residents the opportunity to discover new and interesting places in their own backyard and get a glimpse of what makes us such a special place to live, work and play.
Sites include those that are artistic, heritage, unique, and usually not open to visitors, so they can learn behind the scenes.
Barrie Visitor Information Centre
Guests are welcome to visit the Visitor Information Centre anytime between 10:00am and 4:00pm during Doors Open Barrie. Historic guided walking tours will be offered at 11:00am and 2:00pm, starting from 4 Essa Road and continuing along Tiffin Street to Lakeshore Drive. Registration is required. Maximum 15 people per tour.

Discover Barrie’s rich and surprising history on this guided walking tour along the waterfront. We’ll visit landmarks like the charming old farmhouse, the Tourism Barrie building, the historic Southshore Centre, and the Allandale GO Station. Hear tales from the days when ice was harvested from Lake Simcoe, uncover the mystery of a sunken ship, and meet Kempenfelt Kelly—our very own lake monster. It’s a short walk, but packed with fascinating stories that bring Barrie’s shoreline vividly to life!
