Celebrating 25 years of holiday magic Now in its 25th year, Sainte-Marie’s First Light is an award-winning, must-see holiday event with a great lineup of family activities and live musical performances, all amidst the spectacular glow of thousands of candles.

This year, you’re visiting two candlelit attractions for the price of one: Sainte-Marie among the Hurons and Martyrs’ Shrine! Start your holiday shopping at our extensive artisan market. Enjoy activities for kids at both Sainte-Marie and the Martyrs’ Shrine. See historical demonstrations including blacksmithing.

Take part in Sunday night mass. Enjoy a delicious holiday meal, and much more! There’s a reason this event is an annual tradition for many. Come and experience a little holiday magic!

Add-ons: First Light Behind the Scenes Experience Access First Light before doors officially open! From 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., you’ll help light the lanterns that transform Sainte-Marie into a candlelit winter wonderland, then settle into a cozy longhouse to sip warm spiced apple cider while listening to First Nations stories.

Then, your costumed guide will escort you to Restaurant Sainte-Marie for dinner. Choose classic indoor dining, or elevate your evening with a three-course meal served in your own private snow globe under the stars. It’s an unforgettable way to begin your First Light journey!

Friday Candlelight Chorus Add a spark of joy to your First Light experience by joining a one-night candlelight choir led by Choir Revolution’s Brett Caswell! No singing experience or skill needed, just bring your voice and your spirit. From 5 to 6:30 p.m. you’ll learn one of three simple parts (high, mid, low) for the song “Put a Little Love in Your Heart” from Scrooged in our indoor theatre with fellow music lovers. Then at 6:45 p.m. you’ll perform outside the Church of Saint Joseph on the historic site, surrounded by lanterns, with each chorister holding their own candle.

After your performance, soak in the magic of this beloved holiday celebration. Come for the lights, stay for the harmony, and leave with a little more love in your heart.
