Each year, communities across Ontario dedicate a day for local sites of interest to be opened to the public for free tours. Doors Open Barrie will take place on Saturday, September 26, 2026.
Doors Open is an Ontario Heritage Trust program that invites communities across the province to open the doors, gates and courtyards of their unique and most fascinating cultural sites so residents and visitors can see inside! It’s a chance to explore Ontario’s heritage treasures at free public events across the province.
It provides unique opportunities to explore and enjoy some of the most interesting places in Ontario cities, towns and villages. Step inside local landmarks and heritage sites. and creative spaces to explore Barrie's stories.
BARRIE'S HIDDEN PAST - HERITAGE WALKING TOUR
A Heritage Walking Tour: Discover Barrie’s rich and surprising history on this guided walking tour.
We’ll explore landmarks like the charming old farmhouse, the Tourism Barrie building, the historic General John Hayter Southshore Centre and Allandale GO Station. Learn about the days when ice was harvested from Lake Simcoe, hear whispers of a sunken ship, and hear about the legend of Kempenfelt Kelly, our very own lake monster. It’s a short walk packed with stories that bring Barrie’s shoreline to life!
