Families in Nature & Wellness retreats at the Tiffin Centre
A Day to Reconnect, Reflect, and Rebalance Together
Step into the tranquil embrace of nature at the Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority’s Tiffin Centre for Conservation, where winter’s quiet beauty creates the perfect setting for family connection and personal rejuvenation. The Families in Nature & Wellness Retreats invite you and your loved ones to slow down, breathe deeply, and rediscover what it means to truly be present - together.
This is more than a walk in the woods; it’s an opportunity to share in the grounding energy of the forest, to balance the rhythm of family life with moments of reflection, and to nurture wellness for every generation. While you take your Me Time with Nature-Infused Yoga, your children or family members can explore hands-on outdoor experiences designed to inspire curiosity, confidence, and connection.
Nature-Infused Yoga: Me Time in the Forest
Begin your experience with a mindful walk through the woods, 15 to 30 minutes of quiet reflection guided by the sights, sounds, and sensations of nature. Each step invites you to slow your pace, breathe in the crisp forest air, and ground yourself in the calm energy of the trees.
As the walk transitions into yoga practice, movement and mindfulness flow together beneath the forest canopy. Seasonal nature soundscapes deepen your meditation, while the earthy stillness around you nurtures clarity and calm. Each session concludes with a moment of stillness—a cup of tea in hand or peaceful time in your personal sit spot—allowing relaxation to settle in fully.
Family Nature Experiences
While you embrace your Me Time, your family can immerse themselves in one of three enriching outdoor experiences guided by professional environmental educators.
Wilderness Survival Skills - Sunday, January 11th, 2026
Learn practical survival and outdoor safety skills together as a family. Discover how to dress for winter conditions, build simple shelters, and navigate using a map and compass during a fun orienteering scavenger hunt. Work as a team to problem-solve, stay safe, and build confidence for your next outdoor adventure.
Land-Based Learning Through Indigenous Teachings - Sunday, January 25th, 2026
Guided by a local Indigenous educator, this session begins with a traditional smudging ceremony, fostering respect and gratitude for the land. Learn about sustainably harvested natural materials, traditional fire bows used by the First Peoples of Canada, and the Ojibway language woven through these teachings. End your experience by trying fire-making firsthand and roasting hot dogs over the open fire you helped create (additional $3 per hot dog).
Winter Tree Identification- Sunday, February 1st, 2026
Take a guided hike and learn to identify 12 local tree species using simple field guides and maps. Once you’ve learned the basics, test your skills on your own or stay with the guide. Nature-based games like Tree Tag and the Squirrel Game keep kids active and curious, while adults practice tree identification nearby—fun and learning for all ages.
Kick Sledding Adventure - Sunday, February 15th, 2026
Glide across snowy trails and experience the joy of traditional Nordic travel. After a short lesson, enjoy a guided kick sled adventure that builds balance, coordination, and connection with nature. With breaks for rest and playful nature games, this active experience is perfect for families of all skill levels.
